481. Take a bus or train trip through the Andes

My Story

Updated January 5, 2010

I’m intrigued at the idea of traveling in South America, though somehow to me it feels less safe than Europe. I love traveling, exploring, and learning about other cultures, but I struggle with feelings of self-consciousness – I am constantly aware of being an American on foreign soil, and my fear at appearing to be a stupid, obnoxious American is so acute I’m nearly paralyzed and unable to relax and enjoy myself.

I think that maybe I need to learn to travel better – perhaps by taking a couple of guided tours.

Perhaps there’s an organized train trip in the Andes I could take with a guide and interpreter. Something I’ll have to look into.
