433. Ride the Orient Express

My Story

Updated July 20, 2009

Even though travel by train is noisy, cramped, and dusty the practice still has a certain amount of romanticism attached to it. And if you’re going to take a train trip, it might as well be aboard the world’s most famous train – and one known for being a luxury train at that.

There are now many trains called the Orient Express, but the one that interests me is the famous original route – Paris to Istanbul, which now only runs once a year, in August. This is now known as the Venice Simplon Orient Express, and according to their web site, the trip takes 6 days and 5 nights and costs just under $10,000 US per person. Yikes. That’s an expensive vacation. I suppose I better start saving my pennies for this trip.
