342. Have a closet lined in cedar

My Story

Updated November 23, 2009

I suppose that cedar closets were coveted during times when people’s winter clothing was mostly made from wool and poorly constructed or maintained home encouraged moths to lay their eggs in the soft wool, ruining the clothing.

I’m not sure I can even remember the last time I found holes in my wool sweaters after they were put away for storage or heard of anyone finding holes in their wool clothing.

Still, I love the smell of cedar – it reminds of me having hamsters for pets as a child and of the large chests my grandmothers stored away quilts and winter clothing in.
