To Do
328. Keep an aquarium
My Story
Completed February 2010
A friend of a friend gifted me with a saltwater aquarium that he no longer had room for after a move, and it’s become a real obsession. I’ve got a few different kinds of coral, snails, shrimp, clams, mussels, a small lobster, a damsel fish, a clown fish, and another weird sand-eating fish.
Being an aquarium owner definitely has its ups and downs. I have to set up a chemistry lab once a week and test the water for nitrates and ammonia and phophates, keep an eye on the salinity and pH, and keep the levels of trace minerals high enough to keep everybody healthy. There are filters to clean and special lights and drawers full of different types of food and chemicals and bio balls.
But it’s fun – it’s definitely a great hobby.
