312. Tend bar

My Story

Updated July 4, 2009

The bartender probably meets more people at a party than anyone else – the bartender is the first to arrive, the last to leave, and the person everyone sees – even if it’s just for a club soda.

I have a hard time at parties a lot of the time. I feel awkward, and having something to do with my hands makes all the difference in the world. I’m usually the one in the kitchen helping out the host or hostess. So tending bar would be perfect. I could just stay in one spot, chat to everyone for a few minutes, and have something to do the entire time.

I also think that one of those little bartending courses that only take a week or two to complete would be an awful lot of fun. And it’s so impressive to be able to make delicious professional-quality cocktails.
