To Do
92. Ride a train across the United States
My Story
Updated October 24, 2010
I have ridden a train – the Surfliner from Los Angeles to San Diego and back – several times. It’s a nice way to travel, provided you have some extra time, because it’s definitely slow. Every time you get going, the train has to slow down again to make another stop. But there’s gorgeous scenery, you don’t get stuck in traffic, you can relax and do what you like, and you occasionally meet nice people.
I realize that riding a train across the United States would take several days, but you’d see so much along the way, and you’d gain a real respect for the way people used to travel.
