Have you ever watched the credits of a movie roll? It’s astounding how many people work to make a movie. And those are just the ones who made it into the credits.

If you watch, you’ll see all kinds of bizarre-sounding jobs: dolly grip, gaffer, key grip, best boy, etc. What do all these people do?

Well, here we’re only talking about the key grip, but first you have to know who the grips are. Grips are the strong, smart people in charge of moving heavy equipment like lights, dolly tracks, cranes, and scenery into place. The key grip oversees this crew and also does some administrative work, because that always comes with being the boss.
