338. Perform a magic trick

My Story

Updated October 24, 2009

I think that most children have at least a passing fascination with magic. When you’re little enough, you really believe in magic, but as you get older, you start wondering how they do the tricks, and then you just get a headache trying to figure it out, and it’s not nearly as much fun.

I saw a talk given by Jared Spool at SXSW, where he drew some comparisons between good UI design and magic, and it was pretty entertaining because he did some magic tricks during the talk.

I think that as time has gone on, people have gotten generally bored of magic, and magicians have had to learn harder and more elaborate tricks to keep audiences interested. I’d just like to learn one fun one I could impress some children with. That would be good enough for me.
