293. Learn some birdcalls

My Story

Updated January 5, 2010

One year for Christmas, my mom’s boss gave her a little birdwatching kit – there was a birdhouse, some birdseed, a field guide to birds and a little pair of binoculars. She brushed it off as a minimum effort on his part since his brother owned a store that sold all this bird stuff. But I was fascinated.

For a couple of years, I got more and more interested in birdwatching until I could recognize almost any bird I saw on site. It was fun and relaxing and a hobby I’ll likely return to later in my life when things are more calm and I have the time to sit and enjoy it.

For now, though, I’m actually happy and content with the constant busy-ness and always having something to get done. Some days I feel a bit tired of it, but it’s where I am right now and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
