251. Attend a Democratic or Republican convention

My Story

Updated August 11, 2009

I don’t really care which I attend, as I am neither a Democrat nor a Republican.

I am proudly Independent and really of the mind that this whole two-party system we’ve devised outside of our Constitution is detrimental to the whole idea of democracy. There are significantly more than two types of people in this world and the very idea that Americans can be neatly divided into two groups with different ideas on how government should work is ridiculous. Do we all think that all Democrats share an identical set of beliefs.

Outside a two-party system, we’d be free to make decisions on policies and laws independent of a party affiliation, by reasoning for ourselves instead of looking to a party leader to tell us what to think of a proposal.

But I’m getting sidetracked. While we can all watch a convention on television, like so many other things in life, there is no comparison for actually being there. So I’d like to see it in person, even if I do disagree with the whole idea that started it to begin with.
