575. Attend the Blessing of the Animals at New York City’s Cathedral of St. John the Divine

My Story

Updated November 23, 2009

The Cathedral of St. John the Divine hold their Blessing of the Animals ceremony on St. Francis Day. St. Francis has special meaning for me, because he was my Catholic Grandmother’s favorite saint. I think she related to him because they both loved birds. She had numerous statues of St. Francis and his prayer in needlepoint hanging on her wall.

I’ve only heard of this ceremony, but it sounds amazing. People bring just about any kind of animal you can think of to be blessed at the cathedral.
